Can I major in accounting (master's course)

Can I major in accounting (master's course)? I have a BS degree that is non-accounting and completely unrelated. Can I still apply to accounting programs? Are there people out there who come to accounting after doing other degrees? Moreover, if you want a CPA designation, at least some, maybe most or all, states require you to have a certain number of hours in accounting that include a fair number of undergraduate accounting classes.
