| Can you get a Master's in accounting without a bachelor's degree in accounting? I currently have a bachelor's and a master's degree in Education but am now interested in a career change, particularly int he field of accounting. I'm not real interested in having to go back to school to get a bachelor's in accounting. This is going backwards to me, however I don't mind getting another masters in accounting. I have a few questions below: 1. Do you necessarily need a degree in accounting to be an accountant? I have heard different opinions on this matter and would like some final confirmation on it. 2. Do you know of any programs where you can earn your master's in accounting without having a background in it or a bachelor's in it? Any help guys would be really appreciated. If you need anymore information just let me know in your post. Thanks a lot and may God bless. Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : 1 think so ask at the college 2 Without any background in accounting, you would need some "remedial" courses in order to start the master's program. Many MS programs are very competitive, so someone without any classes or background might have a hard time. However, schools DO like diversity so check some catalogs and see what the requirements are. If you have an affinity and accounting comes easily to you, then you might be OK, but you would need VERY high GRE scores on the relevant portions important to accounting. 3 You'd need to have some background in whatever you're going for, usually by taking some core classes because they expect you to know a lot when you get there. They can't start at the beginning for people who have never had any accounting. Its a lot of math and formulas and if you were previously in education you might not have had a lot of that. You'd need to speak to each school individually, most do take people without a Bachelor's in the same subject but they require you to take core courses to make sure you're up to speed. |

I'd like to disagree with the first commentator. If you can take the fastest way to the top, then why not?Right, the steps don't even judge how the way you got there, you'll learn all the things on the way anyway. And besides, there are alot of alternatives, like taking online masters degree.
