I'd go with the MBA first. This will round you out with an understanding of all of business and how it applies to accounting. Then, take the extra courses in accounting. You're educational background and resume will speak for your interest in accounting, while demonstrating you have an inkling about business. T

Assuming that you have an undergraduate degree with a major in accounting, you would do well to continue with the MBA degree and prepare for a top level management position. If you don't think you will like management, then you could take a Masters in accounting and prepare for a staff position. The MBA would not prevent you from a career purely in accounting. You would want to choose a school that offers some good accounting electives beyond the courses you have taken. If you don't have an undergraduate in accounting, it would be tough to do it only at the graduate level. It can be done but it would take longer.
